Longest ever time to repack a silencer ?

Took me 3 hours to repack my wunoff silencer. About 20 mins to take the end cap off remove the remains of the old material. About 10 mins to wrap the centre tube in wire wool,wrap the ceramic material on top of it and slide the whole lot back inside the silencer body. THEN, two and a half hours to get the end cap back on ! It was a very tight fit and the silencer body sleeve had "sprung" into a slightly oval shape as I removed the end cap. After much swearing and the use of a rubber mallet and a large G clamp it went back in.

There must be an easier way to do this ?

Filing a bevel on the end cap springs to mind.

Don't know if this'd work but what about tightening a large jubilee clip (suitably padded if necessary) around the body of the silencer to keep it circular?

There's already one there. The main issue was the sleeve not being round. Maybe James has the answer. However the cap is a very tight fit so maybe I'll just have to struggle every 2000 miles or so when I repack it.
