Zetec-S 1.25
CaptainJosh - 11/8/05 at 02:49 PM

Hi, I am planning on building a Locost running a 1.25 Zetec-S engine from a Fiesta.

I just have a few questions:

1. Will I have to change the sump to fit the type 9 gear box?

2. Does the engine fit in the book chassis with minimal changes to the engine mounts?

3. How high would the engine sit, would I need some sort of bump to fit the engine in with the hood down?

4. Would the later switch to a 1.7 Zetec-S require any major changes?

-Cheers

Can you get a bellhousing to link this engine to the type 9 gearbox? I'm guessing you can, as there is one available for the later 1600 blacktop zetec I think, but worth checking.

Certainly a good engine, but I can't help with the quesitons!

What sort of power output will a 1.2give you?

Enough to be worth the effort?

Cheers,
James

The 1.25 puts out about 80HP standard, but has an Alloy block, so weighs in at a tiny amount.

The 1.25's are very quick engines. The 1.7's are vairiable valves arnt they?

I reckon youl need a higher bonnet.

1. No
2.Yes
3.Possibly
4. Not major changes but the crank will require machining to fit a spigot bearing

I wondered about this engine as it is lightweight, anyone got photo's , are we saying that this one needs the crank machining or the later 1.7.

Is it 16v?

cosworth - 11/8/05 at 04:00 PM

Only the 1.7 needs the crank machining the 1.25, 1.4 and 1.6 are OK. Engine weighs 82kg fully dressed. Rescued attachment zetec SE1.JPG

Its the same weight and size for all the 1.25 ,1400 ,1600?.

Do they need a special bellhousing ?

Nice installation, doen't look Locost though.......

Pretty much the same weight give or take a couple of kilos. Special bellhousing is required available from shawspeed
