I have LSD off a granada and driveshafts from a sierra which had discs on the rear. The sierra driveshafts are of the same fitment i.e are on flanges. The prob is the flanges are slightly smaller than the those on the granada diff.

Can I takes the smaller flanges off the sierra diff and fit them to the granada diff. If so, can anyone give any pointers as to how they come off.

I haven't done it myself but I was under the impression that there was just a circlip in the diff holding them in place in the diff.
Whether the two are compatible though I couldn't say as why would they have bothered with different diameter flanges but made the internal part the same diameter!

Alternatively, you could transfer the LSD unit from the Grandad diff into the Sierra one (again, assuming they are compatible sizes). This is apparently not too hard to do between Sierra diffs.

If you get an old Heynes Sierra or Grandad then it has diagrams for dismantling diff/gearbox etc. in it.

Took both diff's apart today, although the splines that the flanges are attatched to are the same dia, their shafts are quite allot longer on the sierra diff. Can't see how you could transfer the the internals either as you would end up with same prob.

So on that note I'm now looking for a sierra cossie lsd and have forsale a sierra 3.92 diff and a granada lsd diff.

is the cossy diff 7.5"? It might prove cheaper just to get some custom halfshafts made, as a sierra LSD is much more expensive than a granada one due to demand.

Um well actually you dont want one of them either!! The cossie RWD diff will be the same as that granny (scorp?) diff - a big 7.5" diff with large flanges.

You want a normal sierra lsd, standard on 4x4s and an option on other models.

Oh a cossie 4x4 diff will be fine too as its a normal 7" lsd, so if you meant 4x4 cossie you were right! Only the RWD sierra cossie has the larger diff and flanges. But dont go looking specifically for a cosssie 4x4 diff as you may pay big money for something exactly the same as the diff out of a normal 4x4 sierra (or 4x4 granada too for that matter).

Selling your 7.5" lsd to a cossy or dax rush owner will get you way more than enough to buy a 7" lsd from a 4x4. The latter will cost you £100 the very maximum - a lot less than having some custom shafts made up.

Liam is quite right (and knows his sierra stuff!)

Custom shafts will be £140 for a pair (I know, I have had a few made by a VERY cheap but good quality supplier) and would be daft anyway.

Sell the expensive diff and get a std XR4x4 one. Expect to pay £50 for a 4x4 one.

i may be wrong, but the viento uses a 7.5" diff anyway doesnt it?

if liam is right, and all 7.5" diffs have large flanges, then i guess you really want driveshafts to match.

infact thats bollox, he wants a cossy diff and shafts to match.

As far as i'm aware ONLY 2wd sierra cossies have the 7.5" diff with the larger (108mm) flanges. EVERYTHING else has the normal 100mm flanges, including the 24v scorp cossie. There are plenty of 7.5" diffs, LSD or non with the small flanges. So i wonder what on earth your diff was doing on a granada?? Verify your large flanges are 108mm and you have a genuine 2wd sierra cossie diff. Sell it for loads of money and get a 4x4 7" LSD (and everything else you need!).

You might be able to do what you suggest and swap your large flanges for some small ones but the large flanges might have larger splines inside the diff too (i'd be interested to know). This would be done by removing the back of the diff and taking out the circlips that hold the flanges in. However, in order to acquire some smaller 100mm LSD flanges, you will have to buy the LSD they come with anyway! You will not find them separate (and no you can't use flanges from some non LSD - they're different). So not much point - you're still better off flogging your cossie 7.5".

Even if you're running huge power and really want the 7.5" LSD for strength you're still better off flogging the big flange cossie one and using some of the cash to get a small flange 7.5" LSD out of a 24v scorp cossie. If you're running humungous power and really want a 7.5" with big flanged, thick shafts, then you're only choice is to locate some 2wd sierra cossie driveshafts. Again - probably big money and you really dont need all that metal in a light car with anything below, say, 400bhp.

Hope that helps more than confuses! Maybe i could sumarize...

Just want an LSD: Flog big flanged cossie diff and buy 7" LSD from 4x4

Want big 7.5" LSD to fit existing driveshafts: Flog big flanged LSD and buy normal flanged 7.5" LSD from 24v scorp cos.

Want big 7.5" LSD with phat shafts: Keep big flanged diff and find big flanged shafts (and hubs, hub carriers, etc etc).


At no point is it economical changing your big flanged diff to a small flanged diff, basically cos you turn something rare and valuable into something from a granada. If it's true, you're damned lucky to have found that diff under a granada, and I hate you .
