Crossflow Crankshaft Pulley
GParkes - 29/8/05 at 01:19 PM

Hello

Does anybody know where I can get a Solid crankshaft pulley rather than the standard pressed steel one. I am looking for one of the standard size as I already have the slightly smaller one from Burtons. Somebody did mention to me that a solid pulley was fitted to one of the twin cam engines.

My standard size pulley measures 5" 6/8ths (or 12cm) in diameter.

I will visit my local Ford dealer tomorrow but I expect I will get the usual blank look and 'what car is it for? Whats a crossflow?'!!

Any help much appreciated.

Gavin

Anything wrong with Burton's slightly undersized pulley? The reaon I ask is that I intend to make a few mods to facilitate higher max revs, and a new pulley is on the list of things to do...

I've fitted the Burton one to a road going X-flow and it seems OK, it just alters the speed of the water pump and alternator slightly, slower.

Standrd fitment on Lotus-Ford 1558 Twincam I suspect originally from the 997c 105E Anglia

Probably as far as ford are concerned the solid pulley was superceded by the pressed + spot welded pulley. Doubt if Ford supply the other any more.

Think i had a spare original solid pulley i'll look it out.

Thanks for the replies, there is nothing wrong with the Burton pulley its just that as its smaller it is not classed as 'standard' and therefore not allowed in the locost championship.

From what I have read it is better to use the smaller one to run the water pump slower if you are often running at high revs.

David, if you find you have a solid one please let me know.

Thanks
