Which Silencer

Need a 'straight through' silencer - but don't know which one. Fitting it to a 1600 crossflow. Have been looking at Cherry Bombs, Divers, and Jetex offerings - but don't know which is the most suitable.

I am after one that will get me through SVA, and one that doesn't make me sound 'Max Power' - any ideas, comments, suggestions please?

I've got a Chromezone one - it's a Cherry Bomb designed to fit a seven. If you talk to the man there he can modify/adjust it to suit your needs. In my case, it's not quite straight-through, with a couple of baffles to cut the noise a bit (still got to 98dB at the SVA!).

Mind you - it's not cheap, and there are a few people out there doing cheaper ones that are probably at least as good.

I'm like you, just wanting a cheap setup fot the sva, I bought a length of pipe, bosal 261-841 42mm & a cavalier centre exhaust bosal 278-133 & cut out the straight through box & used the bend after the box for the tailpipe, Sounds good & not at all loud, obout £30 altogether from the motor factors, you need a pipe bender for the front bit & you need to weld a ring to the tail piece when you have cut off what you dont need from the cavalier bit to cover the sharp edge rule of the sva, you will need to do this whatever end piece you end up with. Another silencer box that I was looking at was a vw golf Bosal pt no 233-309, thats just a straight pipe & box,

I used an XJ6 back box with a right angle section welded on for the tailpipe, then I formed a large exhaust clamp into a ring and welded it in the end to give the SVA radius.. Rescued attachment exbox sml.jpg

mine (in true locost stylie) was a freebie,fitted to a tractor and standard fit on FF1600 and speedworth hot rods,a tad longer and slimer than daves

I've seen some people fitting factory original cans from R1 bikes to their cars. TI've seen them go for as little as £10 on ebay as the R1 boys are fitting aftermarket stuff, so might be worth a try as an experiment (look good too IMO ).

They should flow fine on a 1600 xflow, so the only 'detail' is how loud they end up probably quieter than a cherry bomb...

Be a little careful with the R1 pipe. I'm trying to fit one right now - but at least on the one I have, EVERYTHING is titanium. Certainly makes it light, but it is a bit tricky finding people who can weld a sleeve on the inlet (65 dia) down to the 50mm I need.

I reckon they'd have a fair bit of back pressure too with the internal baffles and 35mm tailpipe.

They look great though
