Just putting the pinto in as we speak, I have set the clutch arm part of the bellhousing about 1/2" away from the bulkhead uprights, the starter cowl
of the bellhousing is mighty close to the engine bearer members(std book chassis). Is it best to offset the engine to the offside to clear this?

But Mark baby, the book tells you to put the engine in to try it for room, and to adjust the member to suit the engine, don't tell me you ignored
uncle Ron's instructions? Don't know about moving it over but I'm sure someone will. Could be getting the angle grinder out!

Bugger, I built the chassis before I could find the right donor, threw the book in the bin weeks ago!!
i think this is a common one , Mark --even with a x-flow this piece needs moving .
A nuisance but the magic grinder will sort it out in no time !!!
did you find your starter motor whilst deep sea diving by any chance Mark?

Mark thats loads better. is that a new starter motor and if so how much did you pay? i only ask because i need a new solenoid as well as some other
costly pieces so need to keep costs down!
another stupid question how much did you pay for your engine paint? i need to do everything under the bonnet and have been told that a liter is going
to cost me £40

It's the same starter, just stripped down, cleaned and painted. Recon starters should be fairly cheap on an exchange basis, but you can usually fix
solenoids by stripping and cleaning the contacts, and removing any black clogg with WD40.
I used Halfords enamel, at £4.99 for 250mm, it is acceptable, just. it is very thin and need a few coats LEAVE 48HOURS BETWEEN COATS or it will pickle
up and don't cross coat it. I have been told that the Frost stuff is the best at £18 for a US pint, but have never used it.

I used Joy enamel from focus diy on mine and it has stood engine temp well. Let it cure on tickover for a while and it's o.k., cheap enough as
well.

i will look around for paint as i intend on painting every thing

Second hand starters are about a tenner from my local scrapyard tested and garanteed.If you get one and clean and paint it, it will probably last
longterm as they seldom give trouble in my experience.
