Hi
Has anyone found a good alternative to buying a radiator from Luego for the Viento? I'm running a 2.5l BMW straight 6 so I need plenty of
cooling, but balking a bit at the £200+ that Luego want!
Cheers
Dave
If you find an alternative please let me know as the luego one is a little bit on the £££ side
Will do Paul!
I still hold out hope that one day I'll see the pictures of the BMW viento that you said you had...
Cheers
sorry..............
Finding time to scan the images in is hard with an 18 month old baby.
have got 10 mins now so will scan a couple..

now i'm liking that
Out of interest - how much ground clearance do you have under that beast?
David
Thanks a lot paul - much appreciated!
Ground clearance eh? What made you think of that?! Mine was about 120mm when I had a pinto in it, and I'm not planning on having that change.
So... any radiators?
Dave
Whats the size of the space it has to fit and what cc and hp is the engine.
I think the viento is 4" wider in the cab than the locost, but not sure about up front. Polo rad would definately fit, however whether it would
cope with that beast I dont know. Might do if you fitted a decent fan...
I would hazard a guess that whatever rad the guys running V8's are using would be suitable.
David
Hi
The Engine:
2.5ltr straight 6 24v 200bhp
The dimensions of Luego's own "big" radiator:
Overall 580 395 95
Core 575 285 60
From a previous thread!
Cheers
Dave
PS I'm thinking about an M3 upgrade in the future so it would be handy if the rad could handle 3.2l and 320bhp...
Why not go for the E34 3.8 M5 engine? Even more horsepower...
Go down you local valeo distributor and nose through their books until you find one that will fit.
Or...maybe a TVR rad?
Westfield V8 rad is £310!!!
Mebbe worth a call to Fishers as the Fury rad size isn't too dissimilar to that...
I want to be able to keep the same electrics, exhaust etc. when I change engine next! Won't even do it unless it promises to be a straightforward
swap. I haven't even got this engine up and running yet, so plenty of time to think about what comes next...
Most of the other suggestions so far make me think that the £200 Luego item is the way forward!
Cheers,
dave
Would it be possible to install two smaller radiators linked in series?
Hi
I am fitting a ford V6 to start with in my viento, but plan for something different when on road after sva etc. with that in mind i took my XR4x4
donor rad to specialist-and they fitted a high perf core to sierra plastic headers to my dimension and the total cost inc of vat £140, not locost by
any means but a lot cheaper than Luego
cheers
Mike,
I thought of that, but it just seems a bit wrong! Maybe it is the way forward though - cheap as chips. Which is nice. There's got to be potential
there for a thermostatic valve controlling flow to the second radiator...
Hector - who were the specialists? Where are they based?
Cheers
Dave
i've got a larger polo rad for £30 if anyone thinks it will cope with a larger engine
its 13" by 23"
its not far off Luego's own "big" radiator
cheers
Ian
Just a though and probably not a good one but here goes.
Is it possible to use two of those nice inexpensive alloy Westfield types sold on ebay for £38, one in front of the other. Then feed into the back one
then out of that into the front one and back to the engine.
I realise that it would not double the cooling capacity of one rad but may be enough and it would only cost £76.
Hi there, I used Plymouth Radiators very good service!
I intend to fit an inline thermostatic switch in the top hose to trigger the fan.
I should think there is a local radiator repairer near you-check out your yellow pages
cheers Colin (hector)
A lot of the TVR Guys use these people...

Think you can just supply the ends and say how big you want it and how many cores.
A polo rad is (IIRC) only 2 core - most V8 rads are 4.
Just got hold of a rad from a Volvo 740, .
Looks as if it might fit ok, may have to tilt it a bit to clear the rack with bottom hose but looks ok.
Size 550mm wide 430mm high.
Alloy with remote expansion tank.
Measure your radiator mounting area and your top and bottom hose diameters , positions and bleed hoses. check your local Yellow pages for radiator specialists, take your measurements and have a chat with them , they may have an off the shelf unit or be able to make a one off for you HTH
Found one!
Serck in Manchester are supplying a radiator out of a Land Rover 2.5 TD which is 480 (plus tanks) x 350 (if I remember right - definitely fits
anyway!) with 4 cores for £125. Bingo!
Cheers for the help.
