Cut down K-Series cam belt cover

Thanks for the inspiration at Newlands today (James, mainly).

I lopped the top off the plastic cam belt cover to reduce the engine height - longer term aim is to raise the nose cone by packing with 1-1.5" square tubing, then make an aluminium bonnet with a smaller and neater bulge.

(and yes, I know I could just leave the cover off completely but I decide to leave it so it has some protection from debris)

1. Sliced off the top with a saw (3.5cm at the front end!)

2. all bare and naked!

3. New aluminium top fixed with shallow pop rivets

4. primed, painted and fixed back on

5. now much lower (with nose raised 1".

Could be even lower relative to the nose if I raise the nose a tad more, or grind down/remove the plug cover - then maybe I could get away with a long narrow bulge (sort of sausage shaped)?

Nice to go to Newlands for the first time today, by the way. I can hghly recommend the bacon and egg bap.

Cheers.

James spoke to you aswell did he Simon

looks like a good job you've made of it. what with a slightly taller nosecone and a new bonnet you should be able to fit it all under and clean the lines up and ditch that bulge.

Ned.

Jeez, that was quick!
'James' will have to be careful what he suggests next time you make an appearance
Good to see your K conversion anyway, should give me some inspiration to make a start with mine..!

OK, OK. James, Ned, whoever... I'm a simple soul and get easily confused

I think I am still going to need some sort of bulge, otherwise the nose cone will have to come up about 3 inches and the bonnet top will be horizontal front to back, which I think will not look so good.
