Where is my X-flow Engine Number??
Stuart Walker - 2/7/06 at 01:06 PM

After a few letters already, can't seem to find Mr. Ford's magical 7-digit code on my 1300 XFlow (711M)...

Can anyone tell me where it should be please??

Cheers!

Look for a 'bump-out' at the top of the block, just under the cylinder head. The engine number is stamped on here, but can get lost if the block has ever been skimmed. In that case, a good engineering shop would restamp it, either in the same place or on one of the lugs where the gearbox fastens.

While we're on the subject, anyone know where to find it on a 2.0 Zetec? I found an etched number on the lower left side of the block on a raised area of the casting, and it looks like the only non-cast-in number on the engine. Could that be it? Anyone have an example of what the number should look like (i.e., numbers/characters/letters etc.)???

Thanks a lot guys, found it after a bit of paint removal!

Zetec, The guy I contacted at the technical info centre told me all ford engine numbers are 7-digit alphanumeric, 2 letters then 5 numbers. Hope that helps!

there have been a few posts about zetec numbers - the boss they are on can rust quite badly making the number very difficult, sometimes impossible to decipher.

There is a casting number that gives a bit of info. about the enigne - it may just be capacity - dunno if that helps in dating an engine (by that I mean determining its age, not taking it out for a slap up curry)
