2 litre pinto. car or Transit?????
donut - 1/5/03 at 05:22 PM

How can i find out (without a strip down) if my 2 litre pinto is from a Transit van or not. I have been told that it 'may' be from a tranny which i'm happy with. Are there any differences?

cheers

Andy

Give the FORD technical helpline a call.

0906 5533447

And give them the eng number, they will then tell you where the lump started life and what in.

2.0 Pinto Transit engines use 1600 Pinto car camshaft, so that would be easy to change before fitting engine into chassis. They also run with low compression pistons. These are still flat topped but are about 50 thou short of the top of the block. Sierras run with 9.2:1 compression whereas Transits are 8.2:1.

i think you can find out quite easy ......if you drive past a jewson or similar youll find it will pull to the side the yard is on....must be out of habit...

van versions of engines tend to be downtuned and make a bit more torque

Easy to tell, if your car is the fastest on the road its definetly from a transit!!

If it's like the transit's round here it's probably done a quarter of a million miles and been run without oil or water with two tons of bricks in the back and a wacker plate or two. If I was you I would change the camshaft.

yours, Pete.
