How many CC can I squeeze fron a Pinto 1800 rebore?
MK7 - 9/5/03 at 07:25 PM

I've bought a sierra 1.8 LX with a pinto engine as a donor. I bought it cos I read that the 1800 and 2000 engine blocks are the same. Is it true and if so, is it possible to re-bore the block to 2063cc?

Don't know about the 1.8 but why not start with a 2.0 that you know will go to 2.1?

They're cheap/free

Cheers

you can pick up a 2litre dirt cheap and get it bored for the same price as an 1800.

Is there an echo in here?

Just to add my 10p worth, all be it late.
1.8 & 2.0 use the same block (technically) and crank, only the pistons and cylinder bores are different.
The block would have a wall thickness appropriate for the cc. rebore would be viable but you would probalbly have to have new liners fitted, otherwise you would have reliability issues.
start with a 2.0 as your basis, or if cc are that important get alanb to find you an american 2.3pinto and ship it over.

enjoy.

Sorry about the echo chrisg.

Thanks to all for the input. I think I'll get me a 1993 pinto from the scrappy and work my way up from there.

I have a 2.0 pinto and im having the block planed to up the compression ratio, im told by a tuning friend that this is a more effective way of uping power output, dont plane it too far!!
there is a book on power tuning pintos, i forget the name now but i had a flick thru it and saw lots of info on porting pinto heads etc, ive even found the name of it! its called 'How to power tune FORD SOHC Pinto & Sierra Cosworth DOHC engines for road and track' its by Des Hammill.

hope this is of some help!
