I have just aquired a ford escort Zetec sump to fit to my 2.0L mondeo engine (thanks tricky). The question is do I need to shorten the thing ? I measured from the centre of the crank shaft to the bottom of the sump at just short of 7'' and from the centre of the gearbox input shaft to the bottom of the bell housing at 6.25''. Is 3/4 of an inch anything to be worried about. I haven't made the engine mounts yet so I suppose I could always raise the engine if required. The sump is cast aluminium to I would rather not have to weld it if possible.
I fitted a Dunnel modded Mondeo sump. Take a look on my pics section and you will get an idea of the depth. Fitted my engine is about 1" below a MK scuttle at the top and about 2" below the chassis rails to the sump bottom. The other thing you need to look at is adding some baffles as the Ford sump is set up for front wheel drive so oil movement will be different for RWD. My sump came with a shortened pickup pipe. If you dont fancing welding it yourself I was quoted about £100 to chop and reweld, probably a bit more if you also want baffles added.
How deep is that sump (bottom of the block to the bottom of the sump), only it doesn't look to far different from the unmodified escort one I
have (about 7'' deep) ?
thanks
