Hi all, time for my first ever properly build related thread!!
Right. I took the engine off the stand today, to try the bellhousing for it. The 2 interference fit brass things lined up, and it should be perfect
for placement. However, the starter motor is I think not gonna fit into this equation, and several bolt holes do not line up. So is there a specific
Type 9 bellhousing I need to fit the correct starter motor? At a guess, this BH comes from a granada. I'll try and attach some pics, if I'm
not successful, They are in my gearbox folder in the photo archive

Which Starter do you have?
I think you need the CVH starter motor.
don't have a starter yet, but just by looking at the pics it doesnt look right. At a guess I'd say I need the CVH 1.8 starter. But I need to
sort the bellhousing prob out first lol!!
Cant attach pics after 2 attempts, but there are plenty of photos in the archive!
Mating test of BH 1 on zetec
This the pic? If so, any particular reason why the metal plate is upside down?
metal plate is on back to front
but i'm also concerned how the starter motor space is fouled by the sump.
Where is the starter motor normally on a MTX gearbox?
you have to remove a part of the sump with an angle grinder so that the starter just clears
lol that metal plate is 2 piece, and if not that side, the only other way it goes is on the other side, but there is a seperate metal plate on the
bottom. Don't know where it normally mounts, but with plenty of people having done this conversion on here, sure some of you guys can help with
that. My guess is that I need a CVH bellhousing, not this one off a granada, but Im not sure.
I'm also planning to use 1.8 Zetec flywheel, clutch and plate, CCT132 release bearing. Any help regarding what starter, bellhousing, and how it
all goes together is appreciated!!
Cheers
Matt
Did you mean a CCT133 release bearing?
OK
1) The type nine bellhousing fits fine
2) You have to make you own meshing plate - use the profiles from the original zetec plate and also the outer profile of the bellhousing.
3) The angry grinder needs to get to know the aluminium part of the two part sump... until clearance is achieved...
Pretty sure this is covered (once again) on

CCT132 is the correct one when using the 1.8 flywheel, from a sierra ohc i think.

Hi,
when the engine is in a Mondeo/Focus the starter is high up on the back of the engine under the inlet manifold.
However when you convert it to RWD you use the bellhousing you've got with the sierra starter low down under the exhaust manifold. You can use
the plate from CVH sierra between engine and gearbox or make your own.

One I made earlier...........
OK, I'm confused.
I have an iron bellhousing with the Ford 4 cyl bolt pattern, and a left hand starter position. Odd thing is, its 17cm long.
Now I'd always thought that a 4 cyl bell was 15cm long, and a V6 bell was 17cm long with the odd Ford Germany bolt pattern?? What else could it
be??
In short can I use the close ratio XR4i type I already have with this bell to fit to a Zetec? Or am I not that lucky?
Thanks
Andrew
P.S. Its stored 100 miles away, so I can't check the number etc in a hurry
P.S. Sorry to slightly divert the thread.
