I've got an old x-flow engine from a cortina 1600e for my locost.
Questions:
1. Do the following boxes all bolt straight on? - 2000e, type 2, type 3, type 9.
2. Do I have to get a matching prop depending on the box or are all the output shafts the same?
3. Was the standard carb a weber 32/36DGV?
4. Was the same inlet manifold used on later Fords?

Forgive my ignorance and thanks for your help!

1- All ford boxes have the same bell housing bolt pattern so with a bit of jiggery pokery they can all be made to fit (eventually!)
2- Not 100% on the props. Think they're mostly all push in type splined ones but could be wrong....
3- I think that was standard on the pinto's so doubt it was xflow equipment, again could be wrong
4- Not that I know of.....

If you've got the 32/36, it's probably off a later crossflow (standard on 'sport' / Ghia models. It's the same inlet manifold as any crossflow with twin choke carb. (should have '711f..... embossed on it)

2000E & Type3 box's have differant bolt pattern to the type 9 and type E so need a differant bellhousing & differant number of splines on propshaft, but any propshaft maker will be able to match it for you. The Type 2 comes with an integral bellhousing and will fit straight on the cross flow. Have a look at:

That's not strictly true..... the bellhousings have the same bolt pattern to fix to the engine - the starter motor bolt pattern can be different however. As mentioned above the type 9 and type E (RS200 type) have different splines to the earlier boxes

I should have made it clear I was refering to the gearbox to bellhousing bolts. The Type E and the type 9 will not fit onto a 2000E / type 3 bellhousing.
So the easiest bellhousing to source is the Type 9 Type E (RS2000). again look on the Burton website for what model cars they fitted.

Istr some wrong gearbox info on the Burton site.

It confuses gearbox types with the names for gear ratio sets.

2000e is not a gearbox type but a specific set of sporting semi-close ratios fitted to the sporting versions of the MK2 Cortina gearbox it was named after the 2000e V4 Corsair model. This is the ratio set that was fitted to the 1600e, Cortina Lotus, Mexcic, Escort Twincam, RS1600.
