hi just getting ideas here...if i had a lowcost chassis built....and wanted to put a rover V8 into it....would the escort stearing rack take the load...what spring rates would be best....what diff to use...anyone tell me more..
Hi Phillip,
I think a standard width chassis may be a little narrow for the V8, but there are people building V8's on here.
The engine wheighs a little more than a pinto, but not much so I would suggest 320lbs/inch springs (Lolocost sell them).
I don't think the stteering rack should be any problem as the steering rack does not directly take any load, other than in the sense of extra weight
making the seering slightly heavier.
The diff would depend on whether you are having a live axle or independent rear suspension, I would suggest a Capri 2.8 axle with the limited slip
diff for a live axle or a sierra 2.8 with LSD for indepedent.
Beware others may have different ideas!!!
Cheers
Chris
I'm not so sure that the all alloy rover v8 is heavier than a pinto engine. If someone has the wherewithal to weigh a pinto engine then I can set up a
RV8 the same way i.e. with or without various ancillaries and weigh it.
John
I remember being told they weigh the same, and Pilgrim cars the cheap cobra makers use a regular sierra diff on their kits.
Well that proves my point, if it wieghs the same as a pinto (which I have)then 320 springs should be just right (I have them too!)
Cheers
Chris
