MT75 On a pinto?
greggors84 - 2/7/03 at 12:22 AM

I am looking at donor cars and have found a sierra sapphire 2.0i dohc ghia. I have a tuned engine already so only need the gearbox. Will the MT75 fit straight onto the pinto?

I am putting it into a MK Indy, and from what i have found on here, i guess the MT75 will fit straight into the Indy without any modifications.

Also is the sapphire the same as the regular sierras as far as diff and gearbox mounting points and uprights/hubs.

Before anyone says do a search, i have, and have found a lot of info, but i still have a few unanswered Qs.

Thanks

IIRC it fits straight in, both onto the engine and into the tranny tunnel.

To select reverse on the MT75, i think you have to lift up a little lever and slot it under 5th as apose to the Type 9s push down and slot it next to 1st.

Is there any way of removing the lift up mechanisim, or will i have to make my own lever if i want to use an aftermaket gear knob with out the lever.

Thanks

greggors,

don't know about removing the lifting bit, but after market gear knobs are usually available for lift type select reserve gearsticks. burtons will do a quickshift type item, possibly something about the lift, though bear in mind it is there to stop you selectng reverse after 5th!

you can remove reverse mech on the gear lever. strip the assembly down and I'm sure you will sus it out. The only bit you need to keep is the lower lever and its nylon socket. It's also really simple to adapt the whole gear change remote to move it back along the transmission tunnel to a better position (As per Westfield).
