Dizzy click I think
darrens - 6/2/07 at 09:25 PM

G'day

I have recently noticed a clicking noise coming from the dizzy whilst running, seems to run in time with rotor arm rotation. I've had the dizzy out and all seem free and smooth, bit of a loss, any ideas?

Tis RV8 btw

Take it to bits. Probably a broken spring on the bob weights and one of them is rattling about!

HT lead tracking out? would be at rotor speed . Do you have a missfire?

Could be iIt just needs a tiny spot of lubrication -- this is a well known characteristic of a distributer that is sticking.

I do keep getting the odd misfire actually, but I have put this down to black plugs, not got MS running right yet, so is running rich.

Got me thinking.

Is this a points dizzy? If so, are the points clean, or burnt? If burnt, maybe the capacitor has packed up - the spark across the gap can make quite a click without it.

(just another thing to look at... )

David,

Was originally a points dizzy but have recently changed it and put one of the aldon ignitor units. It was clicking prior to me changing this.

Will have apart again over the wknd

Nothing wrong with the central connector in the cap that pushes down onto the top of the rotor arm?
