Input Shaft Play
coozer - 13/3/07 at 10:32 PM

Just noticed my type 9 has a lot of radial play on the input shaft. I can rattle the shaft around inside the nose. There is no axial play, just side to side.

It doesn't leak oil but I've never used it as it's not the one that came with my donor.

Is it a problem? Is it a sign the box is goosed??

I'll cry if it needs a rebuild

Steve

I think youl find most type 9's have this.

Mine has and it works fine. When its fitted to your engine the nose of the shaft will be in the spigot brg anyway so its not going to wobble about.

Cheers, I know the spigot bearing will hold it, just wondering if it was knackered before I install the engine for, hopefully, the only time!

This seems to be par for the course on a type 9.

Both the ones I had are the same.

Yep is normal. My first one had it. When I received a new one from BHG it had it too. When I called they told me to watch out for boxes that didn't have it. That was bad....

So you should be ok.

FYI, Toyota T50 an renault UN1's also have this.

so it seems normal to me.
