Not Locost but. what engine for 1950's Chevy truck
FlansS14 - 15/3/07 at 09:31 AM

m getting a 1950's 1/2tone truck sent over from canada with the intention to use it as a day to day truck and for owing the kit car to trackdays..ect

but i want a more modern engine for mpg purposes and a bit more power. Must be rwd with a bit of poke and not rocket science to fit.

Any ideas :d

But how about being different with something like a Volvo T5 motor and 960 gearbox.

Or a nice big beemer straight six

Both engines are cheap and although a bit heavy weight probably isnt the big issue

Lastly if it has to be V8 then Chevy LS1 but will cost a fair bit more.

I'd recommend a diesel engine, maybe TD5 from land rover - lots of info about fitting those but usually to other land rovers. not the most sophisticated by readily avaialble and reasonable mpg.

with a rover v8, cheap and plentiful, you'd be looking at 15 mpg max on a good day.

Jim, I like your thinking. An LS1 on Emerald and no cat's would be about 400bhp would be fun but i really need something to do 30+mpg

So run the LS1 on LPG then. You'll get close to the equivalent of 30mpg.

Go on you know it makes sense

Seriously I have a mate who runs a big american V8 pickup on LPG and it equates to 30mpg+

Not locost, but the new Land ROver V8 diesel - best of both worlds, right noise and some economy
