the engine no. is SC33E-2201635
i have been told by honda uk that at a charge of £29.38 +VAT they will write me a letter but i have also been told by the SVA centre that i can use a haynes manual as proof???

SC33E-2200001 onwards = CBR900RR-W (1998).

In which case there's no point in proving the age as it has to go through the CAT test!
If you declare the age as a 1998 then the SVA station won't even ask for proof of age.

Yep anything starting with SC33 means its a 919cc engine, which immediately puts it newer than August 1995.

That info is in the Fireblade Haynes manual, there's only one edition AFAIK which covers all the carbed blades 92-99. Should be easy enough to find in Halfords, or on Amazon etc.

Edited to add, this one
