Wheel studs
iiyama - 9/4/07 at 10:57 AM

Trying to put in some new studs on Sierra hubs. Havent got a press so Ive heated the hub in the oven and cooled the studs in the freezer. Still having trouble getting them fully home though. Can I do this with an impact wrench and a whel nut? Maybe place an old wheel on and pull against that? Or will I just strip the thread?

Ta!

use a couple of washers to act as a spacer to allow the stud to fully seat then pull them through with a wheel nut on backwards(taperside out) you can use an impact gun if you want but i prefer to use a ratchet and socket to feel if its too tight etc

you should be able to pull them though with a wheel nut itself, plenty of grease and some large washers to space it out. Usually an easy job and no need for a press.

As above you need a really thick spacer and a few well greased washers -- use a steel wheel nut but put on backwards so the flat side is against the washers.
