New Carb jets
HAL 1 - 9/4/07 at 01:08 PM

Hi, I'm having a bit of trouble getting my new carb set up, I can get it to idle quite smooth but when i road test it starts to 'pink ' very badly under load, It's an automatic box so unless i hammer it everywhere it changes quite early, I've been in touch with the dealer who tells me that it's set up at the factory as a direct replacement for the old carb, that was bust anyway and original ones were crap so I'm told, but dont quote me,
the problem i have with the factory set up business is that all except one jet are different, I dont get it
would it be a good idea to start by setting up with original jet sizes and starting again ?
I've checked valve gaps, timing it everywhere to no avail, all vacuum pipes etc.

It is your ignition timing, it will be too advanced, not the jets. check it again and try backing it off a few degrees.

Has the engine run up before- if so and the only thing that's changed is the carbs then it could be they're going very lean under load leading to overheating and pinking....

I'd suspect something more likely though- like the timing.... Have you done anything else to it since the engine was last run ? could one of the cams have slipped or something like that?

wherever i have the ignition timing it still does the same thing, I'm taking it to my brothers mate who has a gas analyser to see if there's anything he can do, my main worry was why are all the jets different ? the reason the carb was changed was that it was had electronic controlled choke/idle which basically was f***ed and no-one can do anything with those apart from bin them, I'll try the timing again before i go but i'm not holding out any hope, thanks for the replies guys
