serious help im giving up! de dion beam problems
myles - 21/4/07 at 08:07 PM

hi all
bought a chassis from a company who will remain un-named just for the moment; but they provided a beam for the rear drive shafts and berrings from a serria. the drive shafts are too long and not fitting by 20mm on one side, the drive shafts do have the rings from the pervious abs system. can any body tell me how wide the beam should be or have drawings of it? dimentions are from the outer edges,
if this is wrong the whole thing is going back and i am not continuing

Hi there,

The sierra driveshafts are of different lengths.

Try the other one - it should fit.

agree, swop driveshafts over. This has caught most of us out at some time I'd bet.

but the over all lengh is too short, when all the cv joints are fully compressed eg the shafts are as short as they are going to get the overall length of the beam is still too small
i guess what i really need is the length of the beam

Mines from GTS and is around 137 - 140 c.m. Flak Monkey has a link on his site which'll give you plans and dimensions.

have you got an escort de-dion beam by accident? Its a couple / few inches shorter than a seirra one (i should know this but can't remember the sizes)

Have you asked the supplier for help.
They may just know what the problem is

I find that friendly encouragement helps, rather than shouting at people...

im sure you sometimes have to remove the abs ring to get it throught the upright, though this may not apply in this case.

And as said, if one is just 20mm too long and the other fits ok, swap them over and squeeze both 10mm shorter.

i had to turn the abs rings off to get my shafts in the mk rear uprights too

My ABS rings were fine left on using GTS De Dion and the hubs were off ABS car too if that matters.Just to add.

so is it sorted now?

spoke to the supplyer today and we have a few solutions like using two short dirveshafts rather than one long one and one short one, but he asked me to measure it all up and then get it sorted!

Well done Miles. It's easier to give up than get on with it.
This forum is like having a garage full of your best mates - do something stupid and they will take the pi$$. Get Pi$$y and they will slap you but ask for help and they will queue
up to help and support!
