sync rings inspection
Trev Borg - 26/4/07 at 06:05 PM

ok

found the sync rings

inspected them

what are they supposed to look like

they look like the ones in all the pictures i've seen. Do worn ones just look, err worn ?

jollygreengiant - 26/4/07 at 06:22 PM

Errrrrrrrr, yep.

The teeth will look worn from engagement by the baulk ring AND the taper seat that the sync ring sits onto the gear taper will look worn, the taper on the synchro might also feel loose on the gear if badly worn as it is this taper that slows the gear that is being engaged to the same rotational speed as the snchro ring.

I hope this is fairly clear and helpful.

put the baulk ring on its hub and measure the amount of hub left showing with feeler gauges, the min gap should be in the wsm

clear as mud

When i said i found them, i just meant with the top off the box.

Do I have take the bloody thing to bits to see if they are ok ?

That's probably the best decision you'll ever make.
