Oil in bell housing 2.0 XE
Pants On Fire - 7/5/07 at 04:12 PM

Having blatted back & forth to Stoneleigh yesterday I find oil on the garage floor this morning & oil in the bell housing, it's engine oil.

I assume it's the rear crank oil seal, can't see anywhere else it could come from.

It's a 2.0 XE, do I need any special tools to remove & refit new? Apart from a crane/hoist!

And before anyone says whilst it's out stick a blade in there, I had thought of that

Apart from a long breaker bar to get the flywheel bolts undone I can't think of anything - other than ideally a clutch alignment tool. Don't forget to use new flywheel bolts too.

possibly front gearbox seal?

Check the breather system !

IIRC there is a vx assembly sealant for the joining faces of the end bearing cap that the seal sits under.

Ned.

Def use the correct VX sealant to fit the new rear crank seal, Ive had big probs with this is the passed through not using the recommended sealant.

Thanks guys, off to the local VX stealer this morning to get the parts & sealant. Might have a look for a lightened flywheel on fleabay whilst its all out.

Be wary of overlightened standard flywheels, if you can find a nice steel one all the better

The only 'over lightened' flywheels I've found so far are the later pot type, mine's flat and overly heavy.
