I have a non-GT 1300 and need to make it competitive. I've been told that machining the head to fit GT sizes valves is illegal (even though GT valves are ok), so I'm on the lookout for a replacement head. I've been offered a 1600 Ghia and remember being told that the head is GT spec and will fit a 1300 block. Can anyone confirm this?
Yes it will fit straight on.
Are the valve head sizes: inlet 1.5", exhaust 1.24" ? otherwise a. it's the very first thing that'll get picked up on should any one ever check and b. you're not going to get any huge power increase with 1600 GT valves anyway. Been there tried that by mistake, but as you obviously don't believe a word I say you'll ignore this anyway. A competitive Locost engine? £1500 at least.
The 1600 head is the same as the GT head but check valve sizes, look for 37 casting number on the head as this is the best head, end of line and
bigger ports standard as mould would be getting worn out.
Skim the head, 3 cut seats and valves and fit decent valve springs, should improve horsepower
By the way can supply good spec engine with all the right bits including carb and dissy for £500
We can supply a TOP Spec Race engine and set it up on our rolling road for £995inc vat exchange

John, I spoke to you a few months back about what Clifford Cox can do for me. Might take you up on the offer of a visit later next week if you still
have your car at work.
Just checked the Haynes manual, and the 2v 1300 has the same size valves as the non 2v engine (also same as regs). No mention of the GT. Also the 1.6
has valve sizes quoted outside regulations, so can I really use a 1.6 head?
Anyone?
