What's the best way to quickly detect where an oil leak is coming from?
It only leaks at revs when the engine is under load, so it's hard to figure it out when just sitting in the drive.

I think I'll have to scrub the engine bay out and then drive around the block. Is there an easier way, without getting elbow-deep in grease?

clean up engine etc; then squirt some talc over it - there may not be enoiugh oil to locate the leak but the talc will be shifted by the oil. it hsould narrowe it down; bear in mind that gravity is your frined - oil will ten to flow downwars or horizonatlly along jopins but not up - unless it is hitting some rotating part and being flunbg around.

re: talc - it is not BS - I used it to locate leak on my diff. squeezing the tack container can "puff out" the talc for applying it; cheap non-scented works best.

Heehee! I may have to recruit my wife's baby powder (scented talc) for the purpose.
Need to get all the gunge off the engine block first though. Alternatively, I have some blue talc for my chaulk line that would work a treat!

Any advice on how to most easily get the oil off by hand? Dishwashing liquid and a scrubby on a stick?
Pressure washer is all well and good, but rental fees are exorbitant.
