I need to fit the long nose input shaft from a 2.8 type 9 to my standard type 9 box. Is this an easy thing to change over? Also would I need a longer
sleeve for the clutch release bearing?
Anyone care to provide a step by step guide for changing the input shaft?
Thanks.
Steve.
You will have to drop the layshaft for the input shaft to come out, it fowls on the laygear assembly.this will meen almost a complete stripdown.
Did mine the other week. Just a strip and inspect and rebuild.

Is it a relatively straight forward operation steve? also do you think I will need a longer sleeve for the CRB?
U2U sent,
Steve.
I understood that this was not an option (on it's own) as the first gear ratio is different
Have I got it wrong?

the crb sleeves are the same length, for the long and short shaft boxes. (at least the two i have on my bench are)
the gear on the input shafts are definitely a different number of teeth on the two boxes I have so I don't think you can just swap them.
And, as Steve said that means a complete box strip. I couldn't get my 5th gears cluster off the shaft (think it needs some very longer pullers)
so I gave up in the end.
Steve: if you have an easy way to strip the box then can you let me know.

Toby

Thanks for the comments everyone. Looks like I will have to start searching for another type 9 now, one with the long input shaft.
What a faf. Just seems that over my build so far I have bought loads of incorrect parts
But anyway at least I am learning
and ebay will benefit from my errors.
Thanks.
Steve.
yea you need the right layshaft too
