Oil suggestions - R V8 and turbo's
Simon - 24/5/07 at 08:14 PM

Chaps,

I Know the good ol' R V8 likes antiquated engine oils, but as I have a pair of Audi S4 turbos on the car; being fairly recent technology, can anyone suggest what oil type I should use.

Cheers very much

Decent turbo diesel oil as the bloody things sludge up so easily I always ran my non turbo classic Range Rovers on halfords finest.

If you have the later front cover with a proper oil pump then synthetic is okay, the old gear pumps need something thicker.

Another problem with thin oils in the RV8 is that it will escape everywhere! Valley gasket end seals are notorious leak points and the crank shaft seals are not up to keeping thin oil in.

What about firing an email of to millers oils see what they sugest. They used to be very freindly and customer focused.

If it was mine I would possibly look at the valvoline ( they do a systetic but with high viscosity ! ) used to run the rv8 buggy on it.

I am likley to run the v8 on it once its fully bedded in ( currently using halfrauds mineral based stuff )

Cheers chaps,

Mark,

Strangely enough, it was the diesel oils I was looking at, in local mf the other day, but thought I'd ask on here first

Only consider using a diesel engine oil if the engine is very clean internally already, diesel oils loosen an awful lot of gunk that can block oil ways.

bt,

Don't panic Engine spotless inside. Rockers are like new - one of the reasons I didn't think twice about buying it. Had sump off last week for oil drains so had a good look inside.
