Did you guys remove the reflective cloth heat shield that covers the top of the engine (under the airbox) or leave it on your car?
On a bike I assume it is only there to protect the fuel tank, but could it also be protecting the throttle bodies from too much heat?
My 98 R1 came with a rubber mat thing that I guessed went between the engine and the airbox. I didn't bother with it.
Never seen an R1 installed in a BEC with it in place so Id say ditch it, I didnt even get anything like that with my 5PW.
As you say its only going to be done to stop heat soaking up into the tank and/or seat, so not applicable for us.
Cheers guys, Malcolm of yorkshire u2u me. He said throw it too.
I am going to salvage part of it to protect the front hose below my 4-1 manifold.
