I'm currently building a pinto engined MK but would like to convert it to a bike engine once its finished (and when i can afford it!). Is this
possible and how much can i expect it all to cost, including the engine price?
Cheers, Pete
Blade engines are in the region of £800, ZZR1100's are £1000, Blackbirds £1250, Busa's are £2500, all with the ECU, sensors etc. Some
engins are very cheap such as the Yamaha FJ1200 - still gives 100bhp but can be had for under £500 but probably not a great idea in a car.
Best engine is the Busa - an easy 180bhp and you can lift it off the ground yourself it's so light. Easily modified to over 200bhp or
turbo'd for a reliable 300+bhp.
You'll need new engine mounts, new exhaust manifold, new oil/fuel/water plumbing, air filter, some method of transferring power to a propshaft
from the bike sprocket (MK, Dax, Westfield etc all do these bits) and probably new hols in the bonnet/sides and air intake/exhaust will probably be in
different places.
If your Pinto is running on carbs then try to get a bike engine that's also running on carbs or you'll need an injection fuel pump and a
couple of filters as well as a return to the tank.
I think all bike engines need an oil cooler so if you haven't got one on the Pinto you'll need to get one.
Depending on the engine, you may also need a more efficient/larger silencer as bike engines can be a bit noisey.
You'll pay less road tax too !
Well worth the effort, makes a huge difference to the way the car feels and drives, like driving a little F1
car

i went pinto to blade,
all fitted under bonnet with no holes other than exhaust exit on opposite side.
blade allready as oil cooler built in.
used blade fuel pump.
made my own sprocket adaptor but MK do one for not a lot.
used rad i used for pinto.
made my own gear linkage.
made my own engine mounts, if you have or are building your own chassis ect then you have all the skills you need to fit a bike engine later....
cost ??? cost of engine + £100 if you do most of the bit making yourself but buy a sprocket adaptor it took me hours to make.
Pinto to bike conversion
Surely you mean
bike to Pinto conversion
Cheers
Chris

No, i meant pinto to bike conversion, as in converting my car from a pinto engine to a bike engine
As long as the bonnet goes over the top of the head you will be fine.

Where is the best source of bike engines? I assume a scrap or breakers yard would be a good place to start due to the number of bikes written off in crashes
ebay as a few too, start looking now n pick up a bargain when it comes along, stash it till your ready, i recently picked a complete blade engine up
(legal with numbers) for a little over £300, i didn't need it but at that price it had to be had, nice spare if ever i need one.
keep your eyes peeled n grab.

empty coke cans r pretty good too
Yeah I know the sound isn't as beefy as I'd like but i had a ride in a bike engined indy while i was as MK and the acceleration blew me away! Plus i'll REALLY be able to rub it in the faces of all the kids with novas, fat exhausts and stupid body kits...
A Pinto into a bike? Sounds crazy!
Kind of like my Toyota engine in a jet-ski.

I think you got the wrong end of he stick TEXAS-HOTROD, i want to replace my car's pinto with a bike engine, not put a car engine into a bike! I
like the look of your jet-ski by the way
And chrisg, i never really saw hong kong phooey, but ive heard only good things...
Crap! Sorry man, I guess I got my wires crossed somewhere.
Next time I'll read a little more closely. Thanks for the compliment anyway.
