Im using the MK2 Escort Crossflow Engine, and currently have the radiator mounted, but now realise the filler is lower then the thermostat housing.
What rads have others used and i think i have seen some with rad caps in the thermostat housing, where are these from?
Thanks
Our rad was lower than our thermostat housing, we just filled by unscrewing the temp sensor (we used a Fiesta MK3 thermostat housing) from the housing
and filling from there, it's fine.
The housing I "think" you mean, with the cap, is from the x-flow engined XR2, but are available from
Burton Power Part No: FP610M

If you look on page 91 of Ron's 2nd edition you'll see the solution. Its a Fiesta (Mk2?) thermostat housing with fanswitch on it. This can
apparently be unscrewed to act as a filler.
Dont quote me on this. i am just quoting the book.

(Yup, temp sender not fanswitch!)

I have a MK2 fiesta thermostat housing and switch, but when the cap releases pressure how will the system self top up? If i fit an expansion bottle as the cap must be designed to let water out but not back in?

What engine size and age of Polo is it best getting a rad from or what otehr types of radiators have others used?
Fit a header tank on the bulkhead for filling , fit a blanking cap to the rad or get the rad filler removed and soldered up .My thermostat housing has a fan switch in it although it isn't used as the wires foul the underside of the bonnet, it also has a bleed off pipe that is connected to the header tank so that system "bleeds" itself with no problems.
