Steel x-flow crank pulley?
Confused but excited. - 3/6/07 at 04:56 PM

Does anyone have a drawing of the solid steel crankshaft pulley for a x-flow engine. with dimensions? Got a lathe and fancy making myself a pretty one.
Any assistance greatly appreciated.
Solidworks or back of an envelope with SWMBO's eyebrow pencil, I'm not fussy.

C'mon guys or I'll have to actually buy one!

Can't help you with the drawings, but I (being the cheeky twat I am) have a newish pulley from Burtons for sale.

£10 +postage at cost

Or are you determined to play with your lathe ? (not that I blame you !)

I was thinking of making one a while back - but then I realised that I didn't have the technology (or skills) to make an accurate keyway.

I made an alloy one with a steel centre to take a trigger wheel. I just copied the original tin one , only crucial bit is the centre needs to be a good fit on the crank and a good finish where the seal runs on it, the keyway needs to be a fair fit on the crank to allow the timing marks to be made accurate, but that is the only issue appart from making sure it all runs concentrically. You may find the vee hard to machine in steel unless you have a good size lathe.

SOLD! U2U sent. Cheers.

Still determined to play with my lathe though.
Guess I will just have to make an alloy one now.

paulf,
Cheers for the 'heads up'. My lathe is well able to cope with it, thanks. Just hope I am.

a drill, saw and file ?

drill small hole for correct width, make saw cut to it then slowly widen with file.

I'm too lazy - I bought one!
