Hi all on my pinto i have piper X air filter sock what is the best way of cleaning them ? + what engine oil do ppl recommend for a 2l pinto IE 15/40-----20/50 + make of oil thanks Jacko

Piper sell a cleaning kit for their filters .

im useing 15w 40 carlube at the mo

i have used 20w 50 in pinto before but thats was when they had a few miles on them

i have fully recon/rebuilt my engine thats why im useing 15w 40 as per the book ford one that is


I seem to remember valvoline used to do a 20w 50 raceing oil at one time not sure if they still do

valvoline still do the 20W/50 vr1 racing oil we run this in the race x/flow with no issues.

10/30 is the grade they came out of
the factory with and used till they keal over
regardless of mileage 20/50 is a No No does not get to places quick enough when cold.

Everyone has there own ideas.

I have just serviced mine. The advice i was given was go for a decent 20W 50 without breaking the bank (ie in the £10 - 15 range). Local factors only had the bare cheapo oil in so i went for Valvoline Turbo V 15W 50. Mine takes between 5.5 and 6l when i change filter so bought 2 @ £12.89 each.
My local factors also have Valvoline R 20W 50 in for £23.

The cheap bare oil doesnt have the additives in so i was advised to stay clear of that.

Oil filter is Fram PH2857A - less than £2!

I also changed fuel filter for a Champion L101 from Halfords while i was on.



When ive done some digging in the past i was sure the original oil was 20W 50. Ford changed the spec some time later to a thinner type but this seems to suit more modern engines. Im happy with 15W 50 or 20W 50 so will stick with those grades. Mineral only for me.
