Are bellhousings the same for xflow and sierra engines?
theohighland - 13/6/07 at 12:46 PM

Hi, I am in need of a bellhousing to go between my type 9 and xflow, but realise i am more likely to find one off a type 9 in a sierra.

So my question is will this fit a xflow?

Cheers
Theo

Yes it will fit. Most 4 cylinder ford blocks are the same bolt pattern. Exceptions are the newer duratecs and zetec se blocks.

excellent, thanks very much.

my next question then is which sierra's used a type 9, rather han the MT75?

Cheers again,

Theo

IIRC, they changed at about 1988 / 1989. Also IIRC, the MT75 bellhousing is part of the gearbox, and not removeable. I've seen quite a few on Ebay over the past few months, so should be easy to get hold of...

yeah i have a dohc with MT75 already and the bellhousings is a part of the casing and non removeable, but i have a book chassis so am now going to use a xflow and type9, which i have, just need the bellhousing now to put them together

Mt75 is a much stronger box than the Type 9 ...if you can get it to fit, I'd use that.

I believe the MT75 is wider than a Type 9 though.

There are also type 9s out there with an integral pig iron bell housing.

I'm not suggesting for a second that you would want one, but they do exist.

Got a cast iron bell housing you can have if you get stuck although postage may be a bit high

Ones with Reverse located in the top left.

Try to get hold of an RS2000 bellhousing (or buy new from Rally Design). The weight saving over the cast iron lump is very significant.
