i have fitted a 1.8 zetec flywheel to a dohc sierra engine,is this safe to do so or does it require balanceing with the rest of the crank etc.
It should be ok should'nt it? If you fitted the flywheel from another DOHC you would'nt have thought twice of it but it would'nt be
balanced for your engine if they were balanced as a unit with the crank & front pulley. They must be done as inividual units or it'd be a
common cause of vibration when folks like us start swapping bit around.
So is the Zetec lighter or is ther another reason for using it? My doner is a DOHC but I have poorly 1.8 Zetec sitting in the shed. I've not even
started building yet but it's somthing to keep in mind.
the zetec fly is about 5 kg lighter at 8kg and fits streight on using the 1.8 zetec clutch aswell.
i have fitted it using the mt75 box and to do this i have welded a spacer to the thrust bearing to take up the gap between the bearing and the clutch
fingers.
Thanks for that, 5kg is a fair saving for little cost!
