How difficult was it and do you need special tools.

I have a spare type 9 and fancy having a go but no previous experience.

You will need normal spanners etc, 36mm 12 sided socket, good set of circlip pliers, pullers of various types and a load of differnt size drifts.

You need a long puller for some of the bits I used a bearing spliter with two 10mm studs in it and a bit of 20mm box section between them.

One of the pullers also has to be two legged not three.

I have a manual on pdf for people who want it.

Hi Rusty, hope you remembered to stake the fifth gear retaining nut, (not done in your picture) ;-) Ray

What did you end up having to replace?

rusty - 26/6/07 at 10:50 PM

LOL nearly forgot but it is on the side you can't see in the picture.

I got an overhaul kit which did all bearings, lay shaft, seals and gaskets.

Sounds like a worthy exercise.

If one was to do such an overhaul are there any tricks or cheap upgrades to change the ratios by robbing parts off other gearboxes? I know you can get purpose made Quaife gear kits etc but at a price so wondering if there are locost options that get you half way there.
