2.0 DOHC (Sierra Saphire)

I've not heard anyone mention this engine which is reasonably cheap to source nad develops 120+ bhp. Is there any reasons for not using it?

Well only that it's even bigger and heavier than a regular SOHC 2.0 pinto for not much more power. Probably less tuning parts for the DOHC(?) Don't really know much about it to be honest. But if it's cheap and available, why not?

I've put a posting on here before about this engine as someone, probably with little factual knowledge, was slagging it off.

It's a far more refined engine than the Pinto but the main problem as I see it, is that its tall and heavy. That said I have heard of a couple of Locosts being built that are utilising it. If you can squeeze in a V8 or V6 Ford or Cossie complete with turbo and can put up with that weight and size then it should be OK.

It appeared in the Sierra and Granada with either carb, single point or multi point injection. (Different port shape on multi point). They are dead cheap and of course came coupled to the much better MT75 box.

They went to 16v with the Scorpio and Mk5 RS2000 in 93 and in about 95 went out to 2.3 litre. If you fitted the humble 8v twincam initially you could fit the later unit without chassis mods at a later stage. There are some tweaking parts available for the RS2000 and I would think that 170 bhp would be easily available.

With smoother power delivery and mega long lasting engineering it has to be a better bet than some of the old iron that is being used - Go for it!

By the way, there has been some chat on here about using the old BMW - 6 (as opposed to the 24v engine). Everyone to his own but what about the straight six Toyota Supra (with or without turbo? One of our Lincoln Group members is using one. They make 200 std and will withstand 400+ without serious mechanical mods.

If you can find me a nice straight six at the right price, I'll happily get that instead of the BMW derivative.

Otherwise I'll stick to the original idea.

Not every bugger has plenty to spend on the donor car.

Other than that I know fa about the Ford DOHC, so I'll say bugger all on that.

By the way I live only a few miles from Lincoln, so should a miracle happen and anyone finds me a donor with the right machinery anywhere round this area let me know....
