Pinto belt tension advise
rsorionboy - 28/8/03 at 04:47 PM

Hi all! I'm new here.

I have 1600 pinto engine. The other day i took the cam belt cover off, and the adaptors that mount into the block where the cover screws go, the middle one came out with it. There was a spring against this, that doesnt appear to do anything, which is wound around a bit that comes out of the block. It is just loose now but cant go anywhere. Is it to do with the belt tension? How do i tension the belt? Hope you understand what i am on about. Your help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

It's the spring that tensions the jockey wheel that tensions the camshaft belt, I'll see if I can find a picture.

Cheers

Mr Haynes has a picture if it's any use. I'll try a scan of it Rescued attachment tensioner.jpg

Cheers lads,

I'd better go and put it back as i found it in the first place! I've been driving round all week without it! The belt doesn't seem to be slack though.

Thanks again

Your tensioner is still held against the belt by the pivot bolt and locking bolt. When you released the nearside bolt and dislodged the spring the tensioner base plate can't have moved or the pistons would have lunched on the valves when you started up.

Right, i get yer drift. I've managed to put the spring back now, and i've ordered a haynes manual for it too.
