sump plug

I think my sump plug has had it, so when i chop the sump i'll need a new one.

Will any nut, bolt and flange do, or do i need a proper plug?

I got a new sump plug and washer for a Sierra from my local factors.

They are so cheap and easy to get hold of, it's not worth bodging

Is it possible to buy a new hole as well as a plug, cos i think it will all be knackered when i chop it up? Thanx for the help guys!

What i'm gonna do is drill a hole to drain the oil from, then unscrew the sump, cut it down an inch or 2 (as appropriate) and then weld a plate on and put a new sump drain hole. The old one is proper jammed in and is loosing its head as i try to get it out. Maybe the WD40 overnight will have helped...!

Weld a large nut on the remains of the plug - the heat will loosen it off and the nut will give you more leverage. The threaded insert is spot welded on, just drill out the spots with a spot drill or a normal drill sharpened to a shallow angle and it will fall off. Drill your new hole in the sump and just tack the insert from the inside - easy

thats a bloody good idea mark.... drilled a hole to drain it and got the sump off today. Dropped the damn engine mount into the oil bucket!

I suspect (*tooch woood*) that its actually going to be easy to shorten the sump. Thanx for all the help and i'll let you know how it goes!
