whats the best way to do the above? service manuals say sick the rear brake on and undo it but as the engine isnt in a bike i cant do that.
im going to give it a go with mole grips on the sprocket and see if i can get it off that way but am a little bit doubtful that will work. only other
option i can see is put it in gear but dont want to damage the box.
Put it in first and use a windy gun (or electric equivalent). You won't break the box....
Make a chain wrench to fit around the sprocket. That's what we used to do many moons ago.

that was the first thing that came into mine any my mates head but im paranoid il strip something.
I made like a Y shaped bracket to hold the sprocket then got the engine into 2nd gear and used a masive breaker bar. They're on real tight. Not to teach you to suck eggs but you have noticed the washer with the bent up sides haven't you?
is your airgun 100BHP???
how would you damage the box??
only thing i can imagine is the engine spinning arround...
i would use a piece of chain... welded to a long bar.
Tks

havent started yet but yes have bent the washer back.
i know its nowhere near as powerfull as the engine but 1 its going to oposite direction and too there is the imact aswell.
I took mine off last week purely by sticking in first and undoing with a spanner - they are not generally hugely tight I think

With my R1 in neutral I wedged a bit of wood between the sprocket and the case and used my battery impact driver on it.
It came off really easy.
The R1 has a Tab washer that has to be released first though!

pair of molegrips pushing against the engine cradle and a screwdriver though the hole in the sprocket, quick blast of the impact gun and its off
Splendid!
