R1 carbs on pinto

Hello,

Sorry got more questions about the bike carb fitting situation.

Reading arround some carbs need a hole blocking when running on a car. I have done a bit of searching but cant find any posts which specify which one on a cec.

On a plus point i have drilled out the main jets to 165 today and put a washer under the needle only problem with this is when i start it, it runs fine for a couple on mins idle and revving then starts to smoke alot. On removing the plug its very black suggestion either mixture or timing issue hence the above question

cheers

Paul

(I will post some pics soon once i have a filter attached)

Rich running gets worse as the carbs heat up. Sounds like its running rich at idle- hence the sooted plugs and smoke. You'll need to adjust the idle mixture screw(s).

Personally (though some people swear they are the work of the devil) I like doing tuning like this using Gunson Colortune. This will show (by looking at the combustion colour) whether you're running rich (big sooty yellow flame), neutral (bright blue flame) or lean (small, low intensity dark blue flame). Cost about 20 quid from Halfrauds...

Ive adjusted all the screws on the throttle linkage down to about nothing which has sorted out the white smoke when idleing but now if i put load on the engine i get white smoke. could it be anything to do with the jets/holes on the underside of the chokes? I have 165 jets which shouldnt be to big

Cheers

Paul

Didnt andyharding use the R1 carbs on his? Might be worth a U2U to see how his are set up. I seem to recall Boggs did his for him. They have been a popular carb so someone should be able to assist.
