Hi Guys,
Can someone confirm for me please........
In the photo below there is a 'main' gearbox mount at the very bottom centre rear of the the 'box, but there are also two rubber
'cotton reel' mounts slightly above on either side angled at about 45 degrees.
Question:- Am I right in thinking that the centre 'main' mount takes the bulk of the weight, while the cotton reel rubbers are to help
locate the 'box laterally, and aid with bracing the engine and 'box from rocking too much during revving and cornering?
LT77 gearbox mounts
TIA,
Mart.

PS. Actually, just realised, I think the 'box in the pic is an R380, still similar setup though.

Err I never had the side ones on mine just the bottom one. Is it supposed to have all 3 or are they for different models
That looks like a photo of mine from http://www.vord.net/cars/mgb_mods/gearbox/gearbox_mountings.html It's been modified a bit to use MGB
mountings and crossmember.
I've a feeling the gearbox came with just two round bubbin mounts on the side and nothing in the middle. It would be able to move sideways if it
had a single central mount.
It's an R380. I recall the mount locations are a little different on the LT77.
I've just used the two side mounts for my LT77
This site shows the original idea
http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/rimmer/rover/sd1/mountings
My LT77 has 2 cotton reels on the bottom of it.
In the picture below you can see the 2 mounts I am using (and I have replaced both of those mounts!) and also the 2 45 degree ones you are talking
about. THis is the standard Luego setup I believe.
