Running without cambelt covers
r1_pete - 16/8/07 at 01:28 PM

I see most of the cars pictures with Zetecs, are running without cam belt covers, anyone had any problems with this, before I commit to an alternator belt run which prevents me fiting one?
Cheers.
Pete.

Don't stick your fingers anywhere near whilst it's running, or lean over the engine bay whilst wearing a tie which dangles near the belt and pulleys

Etc.

Cheers

Rally BDAs run in the forests where all manner of debris stones etc abounded at full revs with no belt covers-no issues.

I think the main problem you might have is getting gravel, stones etc thrown up from the road getting between a pulley and the belt.

Having said this, I ran a pinto for years without the cover on without problems, but I did have a well enclosed engine bay.

i had bought a 1.4 fiat brava for the wife that needed some work done on the oil pump and head (surprise surprise) but after i had finished i got her to run it for a few weeks so i could check for oil leaks atc but l left the cam covers off so that it would be easy to check all whent weel until she picked up a bit of metal that must have been flicked up by another car. it got caught between the crank pulley and the belt and recked the valves just unlucky i suppose

I've run my robinhood for 7000miles now with no cam belt cover..

Its highly unlikely anyhting will fly up in the engine bay, and land in the wrong place..

A Belt cover makes it even more unlikely..

Depends how desperate you are to shed that extra 1kg of plastic...!
