Titanium exhaust tube

Hi all ,
Not sure if this is the right part of the forum to ask thisn but here gos
Has anybody had any experience of the said material and where should i look for some!!( my exhausts will be a work of art anyway so i might as well make the most of them!!!!!) cheers gary

Are you talking about the sleeve (for the silencer) or the pipe work it's self?

if you want to weld it we have to use a tent filled with gas at work if not you can break it with your hands very easy.

i am talking whole thing-not sure about the tent thing but as my dad a coded welder on the whole job tig mig stick gas etc etc not heard of that one ( i know he does inconel!!!!!-as per F1 so thought titanium would be same as it!!!!!) and cheaper!!!!!!

your best off useing stainless exhaust tube thats designed for exhausts. standard stainless is no good for exhausts but it would do the job. and titanium is not cheap pmsl. but good on you if you get it done.

You would need a TIG welder, lots of time and patience, and an infinite supply of argon.



Ten minutes welding usually needs an hours preparation.

Lord 907 of the Weldy stuff. Yes.
But what about Lord Trev of the Shinny stuff.

Surely we cant have TWO lords of the shinny stuff. I mean that would be a bit like having 2 kings of england.

Oh and I havn't forgotten about you your worshipfull highness Earl Kev of the weldy stuff.

I think inconel or "unaffordium" as most know it, would be the better choice if spending this sort of money on a system

if titainium would be better, F1 would have Titanium headers dont you think? they spend the extra dollar to get inconel must be a good reason behind that.

A foundry I worked at used to cast turbine rotors in titanium. When hot it absorbs nitrogen from the atmosphere and becomes very brittle so has to be shielded till it cools.

Probably due to very high exhaust gas temperatures in F1 engines? Probably not relevent for the OP unless he has a contact in McLaren for Ferrari technology

if your going to use Inconel you want 625 you can weld it with a normal tig welder and 625 rods. please tell me the price of the rods when you buy them

yea you can weld inconel much easier, no full enclosed shield required.

never knew it was that pricey, should have asked more than 200 quid for the inconel up and over XE 16v system that I sold to an autograsser!!!
