i may be wrong, but i thought the mt75 was too wide for a standard indy tunnel.

if that's the case, i imagine it'll make your mind up

Not a lot in the weight.

Two advantages of the Mt75
1) will take much more torque than the 9

2) very easy to move the garchange.

Against

its bigger (hence not a lot in the weight)

1st gear is meant to be shorter than the 9 (I think )

Im sure there is more

If your using it on the Pinto I would stick with the 9.

imho

As well as the extra width, you'll need to factor in the cost of a new propshaft as well, the output on the MT75 is different.

The MT75 is definately lighter than the Type 9 using the standard iron bellhousing. However, if you replaced the bellhousing with an alloy one (e.g. RS2000) the weight difference would be small IMO.

I've got a MT75 in my Indy...Was used by Westfield for years, might still be. Only problem is you cant get the gear ratios change if thats what you want, easy with the type 9 (£500ish).

Good news it is as tough as old boots and the gear change is a doddle to relocate to a better position. Rescued attachment gearboxsmall.jpg

How about a gear kit from BGH Geartech?

i have had 2 sierras in the past.
one with a type 9
and the other with a MT75.

i have changed clutches on both, on my back underneath....gearbox on the chest, trust me, the MT75 is a lot lighter.

the Mt75 is shorter, but fatter.
i have a pic of the MT75 dimensions here...somewhere...lol

I might be wrong but the design means you would have to change the whole gearset rather than just one or two.

If you are contemplating changing the box to MT75 *just* to get a ueful first gear, then dont - the MT75 is crap too!

Many Westfield owners change from MT75 to type 9 to get a 'decent' first gear (in conjunction with a close ratio gear kit)...

The layshaft is one piece, but you can machine individual gears off and spline the shaft to fit a new one on, which is what BGH does.

Am I wrong or does this gearbox in the original post appear to be upsidedown

I thought the gearchange muont was on the top or is this something special

Forgive me for being thick but Im using a DOHC with an MT75 and im sure the gearchange cradle fits on top

Hi the gearbox is the right way up .
Is yours wrong then?

zetec - 24/8/07 at 09:59 PM

Have you got your screen the wrong way up?

MikeRJ - 24/8/07 at 11:07 PM

I'm probably wrong, but I think there may have been a special MT75 for Transits with the gearchange coming out of the top.
