Type 9 case
Pants On Fire - 7/9/07 at 11:02 AM

Is there any external way of telling if a T9 case is the XR4x4 variant which I believe has 3 bolt stubs at the front of the case where the bell housing mounts? They are at the bottom of the front face of the gearbox I believe and without taking the bell off is it possible to identify?

Will a serial number tell me?

Are you talking about the whole gearbox, or literally the cast iron gearcase, without the aluminium extension?
The complete 4x4 box has a great big lump of machinery in the tail extension, where the transfer box is. Very hard to mistake it for a normal RWD Type 9!

Bottom of the bellhousing will have the curved section near the vanes to make room for the hd bearing bolt on plate.

As far as I know all v6 4x4 boxes have this, my 2wd v6 xr4i box does'nt. However nsdev has mentioned otherwise.

Thanks Mr G.

That answered the question.
