is the clutch release bearing on the type nine against the clutch all the time and hence spinning or only when operated.Want to adjust my cable to get rid of the take up and hence reduce pedal travel

If you have a manual clutch adjustment --- eg not the Ford auto-ratchet or "rising pedal" you must have some clearance to allow for wear otherwise the clutch will quickly start to slip.

With a rising pedal the clutch pedal the release bearing is normally in light contact with the clutch pressure plate and the cable is adjusted to make the pedal level or just below level with the brake pedal --- however the clutch pedal is not fitted with a stop is free to rise above the brake pedal level thus providing clearance allowance for wear.
