Hi, all I am currently restoring a mk1 escort, which I have a 1.8 130hp zetec for it with twin 40's with 32 mm chokes and was looking at this
site and there's a lot of talk about bike carbs, what sort would be good for this engine and maybe an upgrade to a 2l in the end?

Have a butcher at my blog. I'm using ZX9R carbs and megajolt.
They are 40mm inlets and the engine runs great at the moment. I still need to sort out the jets but it runs better than webers do..
Japanese bike carbs are built just like SU's and are very easy to set up. They give you a nice smooth rev up and are more economical the
Webers
They are very cheap against webers and dead easy to set up.
If you need any more advise just ask me or anyone else on here.
Cheers,
Steve

Nothing wrong with webers, but I understand some need extra progression holes. My 1.8 zetec on dellorto 40's returns 24mpg when used in ernest,
35 on a run. Thats on 2d ignition, so will be much better on a run when on 3d (reminder to self to fit the megajolt. weather should be ok next few
days......)
Gives excellent idle (700rpm) only niggle is a flat spot on hard acceleration, think the pump jets need attention, but rolling roads don't seem
too interested. still on the dhla carbs you can fiddle with the pumps
And gives 150bhp with the 130cams.
I have dellorto carbs, not sure what off though, got any maps for this as a start?
