gearbox to suit alfa v6?
Pezza - 1/10/07 at 10:30 AM

Getting rid of the van as a daily driver and am looking at a mk2 or 3 cortina for some medium pimping

Like the idea of dropping an alfa v6 in rather than the usual pinto/zetec/v8 conversions.

Anyone know what gearbox you can use for a rwd tina?
is there an alfa box to suit?

Plan will be to do it as cheap as possible.

Cheers

Ben

Johnmor (I think) on here has fitted an Alpha in his Viento.

He had to make his own bell-housing to bolt to a Type9.

There was an article about it in PPC a year or 2 ago.

John used an Alfa FWD gearbox bellhousing mated to a type 9 box via an adapter plate

Why not buy an Alfa 75 3.0 V6 complete with trans-axle gearbox, prop, driveshafts etc.

Doubt the transaxle will fit

John used the fwd box, as was said, just for its bellhousing.

He chopped it off just behind the back of the bellhousing (just behind the "front" bearing plate) then made an adapter plate and drilled and tapped this to the milled flat end of the alfa bellhousing.

I would say this is easily the easiest way to do it, as you can keep the alfa hydraulic release mechanism etc.

How about a gearbox from an Alfa 6?

The alfa 6 gearbox is rare as rocking horse poo.

Like its said above, john used the alfa gearbox bellhousing with an ally adapter plate, and hydraulic clutch.

Myself and Mr Owelly turned to the dark side and made steel bellhousing to suit

All above are correct, sorry not posted sooner, been away.

The gearbox and clutch are still going no problem,

But talking of rocking horse pooh, I have aquired a gearbox from an Alfa 6 , but it is a 4 speed automatic.

Still- never look a gift horse in the mouth. (pooh or otherwise)
